My husband has Alzheimers and I take care of him 24/7

Posted in Group:

my husband has Alzheimers and other health problems. We moved here to San Antoino,TX from AZ, His son made their garage into a small apt. for us, It is good that we are close to family cause our daughter in law is a nurse, but I don't like it here. All my friends are in AZ. i can't leave my hubby by himself. Saturday is my only day for myself cause his son stays with him. I go to the beauty shop to get my hair fixed then do some shopping.MY hubby is a sweet and kind man,but his memory is getting worse. I'm just tired and stressed most of the time, I love him and I want to take care of him for as long as I can. I'm having a hard time copeing with his AD and makes me feel sad.

Thank you for caring for your husband so well with AZ. It is one of the most hardest things to have to go through. I am glad you have a break but maybe you could have someone else come over for additional day so you can have 2 days off a week to help you with the stress. You could check local support groups with AZ and go out to be around other people dealing with the same thing. My uncle took care of this father from 00-06. He didn't get AZ unitl early 00 but once he lost his faculties they put him in a nursing home where he died a few months later.

hi, just joined this group. my husband was just diagnosed with dementia a short time ago. i'm with him just about 24/7 too. i know what you are going through. i don't like leaving him alone. he has a lot of his health problems through agent orange from the vietnam war. our son stays with him when he's available. he has good days and bad days. he has a hard time remembering the dates and what day it is right now. we take it one day at a time. we get through each day by the grace of God. hope you have a great night. hugs, tgis
